Just the Laundry
The other day, I found myself folding laundry.
No podcast.
No audiobook.
No television in the background.
Just the laundry.
It felt strangely unusual.
Not because folding laundry is unusual.
Because doing only one thing has become unusual.
Most days, it's easy to stack experiences on top of one another.
Eat while scrolling.
Drive while listening.
Fold laundry while watching television.
Fill every quiet moment with something else.
I do it too.
So I noticed the difference when there was nothing competing for my attention.
Just a pile of clothes.
A repetitive task.
A quiet room.
Nothing remarkable happened.
And yet the moment felt different.
Slower.
More grounded.
More complete somehow.
I've started to wonder if presence is less about adding something to our lives and more about removing a few things.
Not every moment needs to be optimized.
Not every silence needs to be filled.
Sometimes the experience is enough.
Sometimes the laundry is just the laundry.
