The Office I Didn't Get

For weeks, I had my heart set on a particular office.

I could see it.

Imagine it.

Picture what it would become.

The problem was that it needed renovations, furniture, and a significant investment before I could ever move in.

Logically, it didn't make much sense.

But I had convinced myself that this was the office.

The one.

After weeks of holding on, I finally reached a point where I decided to let it go.

Not because I had another plan.

Because I was tired of trying to force one.

Shortly after that, a different idea surfaced.

Someone I had worked with years earlier had advertised office space for sublet.

I reached out.

By the end of the week, I had keys to a new office.

Looking back, what strikes me isn't that a solution appeared.

It's that I couldn't see it while I was so focused on the solution I'd already chosen.

Sometimes we become attached to a particular door.

So attached that we stop noticing the others.
