Kaleidoscopes

Because of a conversation about kaleidoscopes, I decided I wanted one.

I ordered a couple of silly ones from Amazon. Then I got an idea.

Things have felt a little bleh around my office lately, so I ordered a set of inexpensive kaleidoscopes and handed them out to everyone at work.

First of all, that was completely worth it.

The reaction was immediate.

People smiled. They laughed. They looked through them and said, "Oh wow."

For a few minutes, the office felt different. There was nostalgia, curiosity, playfulness. Just simple fun.

What surprised me most was how many people had never looked through a kaleidoscope before. Some of my younger coworkers didn't even know what one was. I couldn't believe it.

They were missing out.

Now there are little kaleidoscopes sitting on desks all over the office.

Just because they're joyful.

And everyone needs a little spark like that now and then. 😀
